Linktober 2018
These are the drawings that I made during October 2018! Find out more about this yearly drawing challenge at linktober.com!
Day 1: Weapon
For today's Linktober theme, I drew the Flamespear from Breath of the Wild. I really like the designs for all of the elemental weapons in BotW, and a lot of the other weapons in the game too, but it's a shame they all break so easily..
Day 2: Species/Race
For today's Linktober theme, I decided to draw one of the more peculiar races found within the Zelda universe. These aquatic amigos are known as the "Fishmen" from Wind Waker, and as strange as they might look, these carpy cartographers are invaluable to your seafaring adventures.
Day 3: Yiga
Today's Linktober theme is all about the banana-brained ninja clan introduced in Breath of the Wild. So my drawing today features a Yiga blademaster and a potassium-packed kitty-cat named Bananya! I actually haven't watched the Bananya anime or anything, but I saw the character before and thought it was cute. :3
Day 4: Goron
I thought I'd do something a bit different for today's Inktober entry, which features Darmani's ghost from Majora's Mask. I've been implementing different art styles for my drawings so far, but as you can see, today's drawing was done in a limited color palette pixel art style! Making pixel art is always a fun time, it reminds me of the good ol' days of building in Minecraft lmao.
Day 5: Fairy/Great Fairy
I recently got around to watching an anime that came out quite a few years ago called "Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita" ("Humanity Has Declined") and I enjoyed the show. It was short and sweet and had its own charm and humor along with some interesting social commentary. Anyway, the show had these mischievous little fairies who wore a huge smile at all times that was both cute and a bit creepy at the same time, and during the opening credits song, they would do this quirky little dance. So I decided to redraw that dance, except I drew the fairy as one of the fairies from Wind Waker. I spent way too much time doing the line art for each individual frame in this animation if I'm being honest... X)
Day 6: Rito
For the Linktober Day 6 theme, I only saw it fitting to draw my favorite Rito - the one and only Kass from Breath of the Wild! :D Toucan Sam has never looked so good! X)
Day 7: Favorite Place
Today's Linktober theme prompted me to draw my favorite place from a Zelda game, and I chose to draw Hyrule Town from Minish Cap. It's not necessarily my absolute favorite place, but I really like visiting all of the bustling Hyrule Castle Towns in Zelda games, and I hope that they bring back more of the big and populated cities in the next installment of the franchise. I have only prepared a regular picture this time as opposed to an animated GIF, and I decided to try something new and attempted to replicate a watercolor art style for this digital drawing.
Day 8: Royalty
For Day 8 of Linktober, the theme was "Royalty" and I decided to draw Princess Zelda wearing her robes from when you first meet her in Twilight Princess. I'm not sure if this GIF warrants an epilepsy warning, but there is a flash of lightning involved lol.
Day 9: Guardian/s
For Day 9 of Linktober, I decided to use a more minimalist style while drawing a decayed Guardian Stalker from Breath of the Wild firing its laser. Pew pew!
Day 10: Sheikah
For Day 10 of Linktober, I drew Impa from Ocarina of Time investigating the well in Kakariko Village using the Lens of Truth. I should really do another play-through of OoT sometime soon. :P
Day 11: Link
For today's Linktober theme, I chose to draw Dark Link as opposed to regular Link lol. This particular drawing style took a bit of inspiration from a certain manga which has an anime that just recently started airing. Kudos to you if you can recognize the style! X)
Day 12: Mask
For today's Linktober theme I decided to draw the Fierce Deity, the ultimate mask form to be obtained in Majora's Mask. The SFX just says "MM" in the Hylian alphabet (as in Majora's Mask lol). FYI, yes, I did draw this while playing the Pillar Men Theme on loop in the background lmao, but also no, I am nowhere near caught up with JoJo so I am unfortunately unable to participate in any conversations about the anime.. :/ Anyway, I hope you enjoy feasting your eyes upon this #fierce deity. X)
Day 13: Meal/Food
If you are one of the two or so people who have actually watched my Let's Play of Breath of the Wild, then you'll know that my diet in that game primarily consists of apples lmao. For this Linktober theme, I drew Link after eating a concerning amount of apples while wearing the fabulous white-dyed Sheikah outfit that I often wear in-game later on.
Day 14: Ganon/Ganondorf
For this Linktober theme, I chose to make a pixel art version of Phantom Ganon from Wind Waker. I always really liked the design for this mini-boss.
Day 15: Champion/s
The only Champion that I've currently unlocked in my playthrough of Breath of the Wild is Mipha, so I may have a slight bias towards her when it comes to the Champions lol. Yeah I know, I really need to finish the game, but I'm planning on getting back to it soon once I've finished and settled some other things.
Day 16: Musical Instrument
The theme for this day was "Musical Instrument" so I decided to draw the Phonograph used by Guru-Guru in a few of the Zelda games. The button notes play the Song of Storms, my favorite song from Ocarina of Time, but this specific model of phonograph is actually from the concept art for Oracle of Seasons.
Day 17: Gerudo
I drew Twinrova from Ocarina of Time for this Linktober theme. The Gerudo Sorceress Sisters are a couple of interesting characters, and it’s pretty cool how they can combine together.
Day 18: Zelda
For this Linktober theme I decided to draw one of the less popular iterations of Princess Zelda so I drew Phantom Zelda from Spirit Tracks. Fun fact: I used to dislike Spirit Tracks because I wasn’t too fond of the idea of being locked in by the train tracks when it came to exploring the overworld, but it is actually a really fun game and I’m glad I decided to give it a second chance some years later after my initial perception of it.
Day 19: Link's Admirers
I made an 8-bit animation for this Linktober theme, and I drew the one and only Tingle. Tingle has been a staple side character in many Zelda games, and he is always excited to see the so-called “Mr. Fairy.”
Day 20: Temple
I chose to draw the inside of the Forgotten Temple from Breath of the Wild for this particular Linktober theme. These enigmatic ruins house a massive statue of the Goddess as well as a whole slew of decayed Guardians.
Day 21: Zora
For this Linktober theme, I drew one of the older designs for the Zora from the games like A Link to the Past, back when they were hostile and looked more like the Creature from the Black Lagoon or something lol.
Day 22: NPC (Non-Player Character)
This Linktober entry is much different from the other ones. This image is actually an edited render of a minified voxel version of Beedle’s Airshop in Skyward Sword that I made. So I basically made a cube version of Beedle and his shop, took a screenshot, then made minor edits to the image. I enjoy making voxel models too, it’s like drawing pixel art but in 3D. X)
Day 23: Gender Swap
Not much to say about this Linktober drawing. It’s Vaati, but female lmao. Honestly, I think Vaati looked pretty feminine to begin with anyway though.
Day 24: Witches
I drew Maple the apprentice witch for this Linktober theme. If you couldn’t already tell, the art style is taken directly from Kiki’s Delivery Service lol. Maple and Kiki share a lot of similarities in their character design, and drawing the background for this picture was an interesting task because it’s not often that I get to utilize so many different colors for painting leaves.
Day 25: Tree/Plant/Vegetation
I drew Makar the Korok for this theme. He’s one of my favorite characters from the Legend of Zelda franchise. This Linktober entry may look a bit odd, and that’s because it’s not a drawing, but a screenshot of a 3D model that I made and painted and plopped into a Unity scene, which I hastily decorated with some lighting, terrain, tree, and particle system objects from Unity lol. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to mess around with Unity, and it made me miss developing games.
Day 26: Cucco Attack!
For this Linktober theme, I drew young Link holding a Pocket Egg and a massive Cucco looming over him. “Top ten photos taken before disaster.”
Day 27: Link's Assistant
I decided to draw one of Link’s less popular assistants for this theme. I drew Fi from Skyward Sword, and while many people think she’s annoying and too robotic, I think that her farewell to Link was pretty emotional.
Day 28: Enemy/Monster
For this theme, I chose to redraw an iconic shot from a cutscene in Twilight Princess where Usurper King Zant storms the Hyrule Castle throne room and forces Princess Zelda to surrender.
Day 29: Redesign a Character
I couldn’t really think of anything to draw for this theme, so I just drew Midna’s imp form from Twilight Princess except I made her look more like the imps from RuneScape lmao.
Day 30: Animal or Pet
For this Linktober theme I chose to draw Moosh from Oracle of Ages/Seasons. I feel like most people have forgotten about this big guy, so I thought I would show him some love.
Day 31: FREE FOR ALL!
I wanted to do something special for the last Linktober entry, so I decided to incorporate all of my previous Linktober drawings. I drew the Great Deku Tree from Breath of the Wild in pixel art using all of the other 30 Linktober entries as my color palette. This was the first time that I attempted to do anything like this, but I think the resulting image turned out okay. :P
